5+ Licensing Round

For Revitalization of Economic Reality

16 projects (fields and exploration blocks) will be offered within the Fifth Plus Licensing Round, some of which represent exploration blocks that were not awarded during the Fifth Licensing Round which was held back on 2018, in addition to a number of projects distributed in the northern, middle and southern parts of Iraq.

Block 7

  • Form of Contract: EDPC
  • The Block covers an area of about 6,000 km2
  • The Block extends over Al Najaf, Al Muthanna, Wasit, Babylon and Diwanya Governorates, close to the Nasiriya and Garraf Fields.
  • No wells have been drilled on Block.
  • Expected : Oil Potential.

  • Form of Contract: EDPC
  • The Block covers an area of about 8,000 km².
  • The Block extends over the Al Najaf and Al Muthanna Governorates.
  • One well has been drilled on Block.
  • Expected: Predominantly Oil Potential.

  • The area of the field is 294 km², within Al Muthanna Governorate.

  • This field is situated within Wasit Governorate.

Northern Extension of East Baghdad

  • Form of Contract: DPC
  • The area of the extension is 231 km², within Baghdad and Salah Al Den Governorates.
  • Seven wells have been drilled in this extension.
  • The extension contains oil and associated gas.

  • The total area of these fields is 1,073 km², shared between Al Najaf and Karbala Governorates.
  • Six wells have been drilled in the fields.

  • The area of the field is 451 km², within Maysan Governorate.
  • One exploration well has been drilled in the field.
  • The field is predominantly oil bearing.

  • The area of the exploration block is 400 km², within Iraqi Territorial waters.
  • One structural lead identified in the block, namely : the Gulf.
  • Initial assessment suggested that the block holds gas accumulations.

  • This block is situated within Basra Governorate adjacent to Iraqi–Kuwaiti international borders. With area of 235 km².
  • One structural nose identified in the block, namely : Jabal Sanam, which is shared with Kuwait.
  • One exploration well has been drilled in the block.
  • Initial assessment suggested that the block holds oil accumulations.

FAO

  • Form of Contract: EDPC
  • This block situated within Basra Governorate adjacent to Iraqi–Kuwaiti–Iranian international borders with area of 1,398 km².
  • One geological structure has been identified in the block, namely : Umm-Qasr. One additional stratigraphic lead has also been identified on block.
  • One exploration well has been drilled in the block.
  • Initial assessment suggested that the block holds oil and gas accumulations.

Shihabi

  • Form of Contract: EDPC
  • This block is shared between Wasit and Maysan Governorates with area of 1,428 km².
  • One geological structure has been identified in the block, namely : Shihabi, which has dimensions of 32 km (long) by 1.5 – 3.0 km (width) within Iraq’s international borders.
  • Initial assessment suggested that the block holds oil accumulations.

  • The area of the exploration block is 360 km², within Wasit Governorate.
  • Two geological structures have been identified in this block, namely : Zurbatiya and Tariq.
